In this one-time class, students will learn about the daily routine of a horse stable by making a reusable busy book from basic household items.
Class experience
In this interactive art class, students will learn to make a horse stable busy book with a professional horse trainer/farm owner. Using a cereal box, downloadable photos of real scenes from around the teacher’s farm and basic craft supplies, students will leave with a reusable “barn” with a paper horse and supplies, as well as the knowledge of how a horse is cared for on a daily basis.
•Create a horse barn busy book •Learn how horses are cared for and brainstorm ideas about how to personalize their own “stable.” Students will have the opportunity to practice: •fine-motor skills (cutting, coloring, taping/stapling) •creativity •decision-making •animal husbandry/horse care
I am a farm owner, horse trainer and professional Dressage competitor. My son and I enjoy making toys out reusable items and inexpensive crafts, so I enjoy sharing my most tried-and-true projects (while educating students on horse care).
Homework Offered
Continue adding items to your horse barn and practice caring for your paper horse. Watch a show or read a book with horses and see if you can identify three horse-care items covered in class.Assessments Offered
Completion of the barn busy book with a horse and at least three items. Students should be able to identify all items in their barn and how they are used to care for horses.Grades Offered

Markers or crayons - green, blue, brown and orange 5. Clear tape or a stapler 6. Optional: printed photos of a downloadable series of farm photos 7. Optional: pipe cleaners, ribbon, string, a handful of grass clippings and other creative craft supplies
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
