Class Experience

In this beginning floral design class, students will learn to assemble a basic, round floral centerpiece. In addition to the confidence gained, these skills will also translate into a variety of other projects. The centerpiece is a great starting place for both students who want to be either a crafty do-it-yourself maker or pursue a career in floral design.

Handouts with vocabulary, material ideas, and basic steps will be available. While students do not need any prior experience for this class, my classes on using tools and shopping for materials may be helpful. If you have questions, please feel free to send me a message!

Supply List
Students are not required to make an arrangement in class, but they are welcome to try out the skills as they learn them!

Here are some basic supplies for a centerpiece:
Container (For your first project, it is easiest to choose something opaque.)
Dry Foam (This is green, dusty, and perfect for holding artificial flowers! Send me a message if you need help finding it.)
Waterproof floral tape
1 bag of dry Spanish moss
9 faux flowers
1 bush of greenery
6-8 filler (small) flowers
Dull serated knife (a butter knife will work just fine!)
Wire Cutters
Scissors

Most of these supplies can be purchased at a dollar or craft store for approximately $15-20. I do not recommend buying expensive materials for practicing these techniques.

You can always reach out to me if you have questions.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey, everyone!

I'm Rhonda, and I love to teach. And I love kids. It seems like I might be in the right place.

I have a BS in Education, and I've done some post-grad work in both high ability studies and second language learners. After teaching a dozen years in brick and mortar schools at every age group from Kindergarten to High School, I took another title and position...mama! During this time away from the classroom, I taught on the VIPKID platform, meeting amazing learners on the other side of the world. I currently teach Middles School English and here on Outschool.

My husband and I have two girls, ages 8 and 10. We live on a farm with lots of chickens, ducks, and geese. We also have two dogs, a lab (Maggie Jane) and a service dog (Liberty) for our oldest daughter who is autistic.

Teaching is all about relationship, creativity, and content. Without a balance of all three, students are disconnected, bored

Before I became a teacher, I went to trade school to be a florist. I am very excited to combine both passions, bringing you basic and intermediate floral design classes. This is a great place to start if you want to find out if floral design is for you!
