Make a Balloon Car | Hands-On STEM Project
Class experience
In this one-time class, we will work on building a car with recyclable materials and household objects such as bottles and balloons. Structure of each Class - 5 minutes of "show and tell". Learners are encouraged to bring their favorite toy car or an image of their favorite vehicle to show class. - 10 minutes of lecture and discussion. We will work on building a car with recyclable materials and household objects such as bottles and balloons. Learners will have an opportunity to listen, share, learn from, and work with other learners.
- 1 plastic bottle (plastic cup or aluminum can will work too, if you can, please have all three) - 3 flexible straws - 2 wooden skewers - 4 bottle caps with pre-drilled holes - some plastic caps are soft enough to push through with the sharp end of the skewer. - the holes must be wider or fit the skewers or sticks - it doesn’t have to be an exact fit but the learner should be able to thread the skewer easily - tapes - balloons - scissors - rubber bands - 2 books (to keep the bottle stationary while working)
This class involves drilling holes onto plastic caps. Some bottle caps are soft enough to poke through with a wooden skewer, but some might need a grownup's help. We will also be using scissors to cut up straws.
