What's included
3 live meetings
2 hrs 15 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this series of lessons, we will be delving deep into the tides of history, mythology, folklore, art, storytelling, multicultural perspectives of mermaids, and much, much more! From Africa to the Caribbean islands, Europe, New Zealand, Americas and more, these maidens of the sea deserve to have their stories told! We will compare and contrast what is said about them in different places around the world, and then put our own creative spin on how we view things for ourselves with art projects and other activities. A very fun and lighthearted class which is also packed with research and wisdom to carry with you. No experience is necessary! Just an open mind and heart that is ready to go on a quest to bridge the world together through history and stories. :) Your homework assignments are simple and FUN! These are easy and quick art and life activities to help you remember what you learned, and enjoy yourself! From creative writing, to making your own all organic mermaid shimmer lotion & bath salts, Mami Wata mirrors, and more, you will have many opportunities to create something memorable. Parents are welcome to join in! Your art projects and creative writing/drawing projects will be your grade and help to show me that you know your Sea Ladies! Nothing has to be perfect, so don't worry there. These assignments should show who you are as an individual and your own perspective, so let your creativity shine bright! Since it is perspective based, there are no wrong answers for your homework. (Yay!) That is, unless you draw your mermaids like unicorns…. (But then again, there’s the narwhal; which are the unicorns of the sea, so I guess that would still count!) -See? You really can’t go wrong in your creative homework.

Parental Guidance
I do keep this as a secular class and history based for content rather than spiritually led to believe one way. Many of these mermaids do have cultural and spiritual/magical contexts and meanings which will be mentioned but from a non biased view, it's more to show what the people believe across the world. Some mermaids are seen folktales and others as goddesses in other countries, I like to keep it authentic to how they perceive them. :)
Supply List
Each week you will receive handouts which you can download or print into your very own cultural mermaid book (I suggest printing for your own long term benefit!) For art projects I like to be as practical as possible so try to use everything you can that you already have! This can include pencils, crayons/markers/colored pencils/paint, glue, glitter, random beads, flowers, shells, sticks, anything you find that you want to use, I love it! Get creative! Also a journal, or something to write on. **If you would like to make mermaid body shimmer and salts, I will be giving you the recipe I use in a section of one of the classes for you to make on your own time as one of the activities, if you would like to purchase materials in advance to make it along with me by all means contact me and I will email you the ingredients for the all natural ones to make from scratch, or you can just use a little lotion you already have and something to make it shimmer, either way I've got ideas for you all around! :)

Teacher expertise and credentials
I am a very passionate cultural researcher and teacher who loves to lasso up all of the different stories across the world to show that we all aren't so different after all. Every culture has stories of things that we cannot explain, and instead of arguing over who is right, I believe we should all share our heritage stories so we can give other points of views and celebrate them all!
