Class Experience

This is a class that meets live, one time, and is from my "Magical Wonders" series of classes. This is #4 in the series which will cover the topic of Gnomes and Elves. Learners may attend these classes in any order and may choose to attend one class or all of the classes in the series.

This class delves into the magical world Gnomes and Elves to explore their history and surrounding mystique within literature and cultures. We will explore these creatures from early to modern times. We will also follow how these mythical creatures and legends change over time and from culture to culture.

Students will identify Gnomes and Elves through antique literary artwork, as well as understand the significance of these creatures as characters in literature. In addition, students will evaluate and analyze how these creatures evolved in literature over time.

Class is taught from a secular standpoint. Santa and his elves are not mentioned. There is a photo of the "Elf on the Shelf" as reference in showing what many students visualize when they think of elves. Students may bring up the topic of Santa, Santa's elves and Christmas during discussion though.

Please see the parental guidelines because this class could potentially upset students due to the mythology, folklore or images of the bad gnomes/elves.

I have had a life long love of history especially folklore. I have conducted years of research in children's literature. In fact, I have hundreds of vintage children's out of print books in which to cultivate topics that have been long forgotten. As an educator by trade, I have found that young people need to be exposed to many types of subjects. With this in mind, I have developed this class to show students fascinating areas of study they may never have been exposed to before.

Please join me for a look at these magical wonders.
