In this one time course, learners will get to pick their magical math adventure! Learners will be put in the place of a new student attending Magical school. There they meet a new friend, Parry, who asks you to watch his owl for him. Yet, when you wake up the next morning....her cage is empty! You must choose where to look in the school to try and find her! Along the way you need to solve math problems in order to get the next clue of where your friend's owl may be! This is a fun and engaging class where learners will need to work together solving math problems and coming to many agreements. **Math problems are based upon a second grade level and touch on: telling time, addition and subtraction with and without regrouping, missing addends, money, words problems, working with numbers to the hundreds.** ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Class Policies: 1. I aim to keep classes close to the scheduled amount of time. However, classes with low enrollments or especially talkative students may run a few minutes under or a few minutes over. 2. I want each student to have an engaging time both with me and with fellow classmates. Therefore, If a class does not meet the minimum enrollment requirements, (usually 2) the section will be cancelled. I will contact the parent before cancellation to transfer the student to a new section. Depending on the circumstances, I may still teach a single-learner class. 3. Classes will begin at the scheduled time, even if all learners are not in the classroom (unless there appears to be a technical issue). I will not be able to contact absent learners during class time because I'll be focused on teaching the attending students. If you would like to transfer your student to a future class, please contact me with the requested schedule. 4. If no students are present in the classroom when class is meant to begin, I will wait 10 minutes before exiting. Once I exit the classroom, the class will be considered finished. 5. Classroom expectations are as follows: a. Students will not be muted in the classroom, unless there is excessive background noise that is disruptive to the learning of others. I will review class rules at the start of each lesson [ex: raising your hand]. b. Students are expected to participate as much as they can or feel comfortable. I understand some students may be reserved or shy - they will not be forced to speak up! Younger students can bring a stuffed toy or remain standing during class if it helps them focus. I would ask older students to not have their phones with them during the lesson. c. Parents and siblings are welcomed to watch the class off camera. However, if siblings are going to both participate, each sibling must be enrolled in the lesson individually. d. My classrooms are designed to be inclusive and welcoming, and I want each student to get the most out of their class. For this reason, if a student is disruptive during lesson, they will be given up to three warnings before being placed in the waiting room. The student will be readmitted to class when the teacher feels they are ready to rejoin. If behaviors are extreme enough, the parent will be contacted by the teacher and the OutSchool team will be notified as well.
