Class Experience
This week-long camp focused on skills students need to begin their 5th grade math year! Day 1: Decimals, Place Value, and Magical Zeros Dress up theme: Magical Hat Day (wear a wacky, wonderful, or wizardly hat of your choosing) Activity 1: Place Value Introduction Activity 2: Place Value Practice - Transform your decimals Activity 3: Place Value Word Problems. Students will be able to use the area model solve 2x2 digit multiplication Students will be able to identify place value up to the millions and down to the thousandths, and understand that moving left up the place value chart is 10x larger each step; Students will be able to use the area model, grouping, and partial products to complete basic (2 digit x 1 digit) division problems. Students will be able to write fractions from decimals, identify proper and improper fractions, and use an area model to visually represent basic addition and subtraction of fractions with like denominators
