1 hour per week. Students will have 1 page of homework after each class. For the last class, students will have a book review project to share with the class. This can be done on poster board, tri-fold board, construction paper, or printer paper.Assessment
Students will share their projects during the last class.Class Experience
Read with us as the Magic Tree House whisks Jack and his sister away to ancient Japan, where they meet real ninjas! In each class, we will be reading and discussing the story "Night of the Ninjas." We will review vocabulary words and complete an activity in class, and there will be comprehension homework after each class. We will read the chapters together in class. Before each class, I will ask for volunteers to read and I will write those names down. Every single student who wants to read will have a chance to read out loud. I will not call on children who are not comfortable reading, but I will encourage the students to have their name on my read-a-loud list. If there are no students who feel comfortable reading, I will read the chapter. This class provides a good opportunity for students to continue to practice reading out loud and discussing a book in a small group. It also gives them a chance to practice reading a chapter book and practice reading fluency. At the end of the book, students will create a poster or similar project to share what they have learned and enjoyed. 5 minutes- go over homework 10 minutes- Read-a-loud, discussion 5 minutes- comprehension activity, introduce homework Day 1: Chapters 1 and 2 - Find 3 important words from chapters 1, 2 Day 2: Chapters 3 and 4 - What did Jack learn about ninjas? Day 3: Chapters 5 and 6 - What is 1 problem in the story? How did they solve it? Day 4: Chapters 7 and 8 - What did Jack learn about the samurai? Day 5: Chapters 9 and 10 - Did you enjoy the book? Any questions that are not completed during class will be completed for homework.
