Did you have a blast reading the Magic Treehouse series and are looking for more? Well, you've come to the right place! We are continuing on in the journey with Jack and Annie and following along on their journey through the Merlin Missions. Haven't read the Magic Treehouse books before? No problem! The quick prologue in the beginning of book 1 will get you quickly up to speed! The Magic Treehouse books are excellent for beginning readers and the Merlin Missions series takes it to that next level! Merlin Missions books are longer in length and have more complex vocabulary and sentence structure. They allow students to enter the Great Conversation of Literature and the stories begin with Jack and Annie going to Camelot to help Merlin and his friend Morgan Le Fay (sound familiar?) save Camelot! This theme runs throughout all of the stories as Jack and Annie bravely quest to help their friends and save the day! In this class, students will read the story of the week before coming to class. They will come to class prepared to discuss the story and complete the activity of the week! Students will answer reading comprehension questions about the story and have a great conversation about their experience with the story. The Merlin missions stories are rich in mythology, folklore and tales from cultures all over the world! We will delve into these cultures and folklore and students will learn that many of the people in these stories actually existed! We'll discover how people in various cultures throughout time thought, experienced the world around them and interacted throughout history. My goal in class is to create a sense of wonder in your student so that they can develop a love of learning about history, mythology and cultures. Students will be challenged to think about how the story fits into their own lives and what they already know about each topic. Upon completing this book club, students are not only stronger readers, but their sense of the world and world history is expanded greatly through their exposure into the world of the Magic Treehouse! Other Details
Parental Guidance
The Merlin Missions stories are created for students aged 7-10. The AR levels are between grade level 2.2 and 4.0. Some of the books have subject matter that may be scary for some students. For example, book #3, Summer of the Sea Serpent has a large snake-like creature in the story, which may be scary for some students. Also, some stories discuss holidays like Christmas and Halloween (or Hallows Eve as it was called in historical times). These holidays will be discussed from a secular viewpoint. Please be sure to preview the stories to ensure that they will not be scary for your young learner. Please reach out to me if you feel the subject matter is too scary for your child and we can discuss how to best make your learner more comfortable through that time.
This class will not discuss book #25 Shadow of the Shark due to its inaccurate historical presentation.
Supply List
The student will need a copy of the book for each week to read. Students may also create a craft in class and should have some glue, scissors, coloring pens/pencils/crayons of their choice and a pencil to write with for each class. Before the class, I will upload any paperwork that may be needed for that week so that each student can have it printed and ready to be used in class.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Hello! My name is Stacey and I am a homeschooling mom of 4. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Arts in Mental Health Counseling. I have seven years of online teaching experience teaching children online. I also have 15 years of experience counseling children and their families to cope with big feelings and helping them increase their communication skills. I also currently run 2 companies!
I became a homeschooling Mom to 3 of my 4 children in 2018 when my son was diagnosed with dyslexia and dysgraphia. The school he attended was not able to teach him to read so I learned how to teach reading to him using Orton Gillingham techniques and curriculum. I have since taught many children to read by using movement, activities, and lots of fun! Learning to teach children to read has become one of my passions in life!
I believe that children learn best when they feel cared for and are having fun! When older children understand how the curriculum will help them in their everyday lives they are more likely to retain the information and become a partner in their own learning. This makes learning so much more interesting for the student. It's our job as parents and teachers to help your child understand how the topics they learn will help them today and in their future!
My other passion in life includes teaching students about personal finance. This is something I've been interested in since I was a teenager, and I hope to be able to teach as many students as possible about how to build wealth through budgeting and being mindful of their income and expenses. I am excited to share this knowledge with your students!
When I'm not in the classroom, I can usually be found reading a great book or lounging in my pool or on the beach. I live in sunny FL, about 10 minutes from the beach and we enjoy going often. So if you see me in class with a sunburned face, you know why!
I look forward to partnering with you to teach your child something new and amazing! Thank you for the honor of being your child's teacher. I don't take this responsibility lightly. See you in the classroom!
