Description

Class Experience

Learners will discuss the setting of the story, the motivations of the characters, discuss alternative story lines, and learn about the history of the time period the story is set in. We will learn, in some stories, how fiction and historical fact differ.
I have been an educator on Outschool since February of 2018. I have my MBA and MHA, both of which have taught me the value of conducting research and asking questions. I have a passion for history and learning. You can usually find me in the middle of 2-3 books or watching a documentary.
Learners are asked to read the story BEFORE coming to that weeks class, but it is not required. There will be spoilers of the story line given and discussed.
Learners are required to read the books ahead of time on their own time. They can find most of these books at their local library.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Some videos on Youtube may be shown in class to demonstrate historical events.

Some of these stories take place during violent times. All discussions will be at an age appropriate level.

Some of the sources used for this class are, but not limited to:
Smithsonian
Britannica
National Geographic
PBS
Library of Congress
