Let's take a literary trip on a pirate ship! This book club for elementary-aged kids is based on my past, popular Magic Tree House courses. Learners will attend four 45-minute classes over 4 weeks boosting their reading skills through active reading. We'll work on mastering English Language Arts standards for this age range, and will practice discussing literary texts with peers through the Magic Tree House series Book 4, "Pirates Past Noon." Please note, you *do not* have to read the previous books to read Book 4! Dive into any book and enjoy the adventure. This class is meant to challenge readers while offering a fun, safe space to socialize, share, and explore literary ideas. We will read our books together aloud in class while covering ELA standards for the general 6-8 age group. The class may be appropriate for kids in first, second, or third grade, based on reading level. The course is collaborative, social, and hands-on, with reading, sharing, and active discussion taking place each week. The course supports homework, including a quiz. Students will read either independently or aloud with a parent at home each week to continue the discussion in class and build on what they learned the previous week. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded at the end of the class! **Students will need a copy of Magic Tree House Book 4: "Pirates Past Noon," for class. Books can be checked out at the library or purchased bookstores for about $5-8/each.**
Learning Goals
Present information orally and share with peers using complete sentences. Use knowledge of grade-appropriate word analysis skills to decode words and meanings accurately.
