What's included
4 live meetings
3 in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. Students will be expected to read portions of the books outside of class, either independently or with mom and dad, as assigned homework reading. This is so we can continue to discuss the books in class and finish within the class's time period. Students must stay on track with their reading to participate in and complete the class in a book club format. They should also be willing to take a quiz as homework.Assessment
I will provide a take-home assessment quiz and/or trivia. I will grade the assessment and provide comments for the student near or at the end of the course.Certificate of Completion
Students receive a custom certificate after completing the course.Grading
At parents' request, I am happy to provide a grading component. Sometimes this is desired for summer progress or homeschool purposes. I will automatically evaluate all students' progress throughout the course, with the quiz as part of this evaluation. The quiz will be scored for all students regardless of the family's need for a letter grade; however, if a student would like me to assign a letter grade (e.g., A, B, C) at the end of the course, I am happy to do so. Please indicate you would like a letter grade by sending me a private message and I will do this for you.Class Experience
In this book club for elementary students, learners will boost their reading skills through active reading, master English Language Arts standards for this age range, and practice sharing and discussing literary texts with peers through the popular children's book, "Dinosaurs Before Dark" (Magic Tree House Series Book 1). This class offers a fun, safe space to socialize, share, and explore literary ideas. We will read our books together aloud in class while learning facts about dinosaurs and discovering ELA standards for the ages 6-9 age group. The course is collaborative, social, and hands-on, with sharing, reading and active discussion taking place each week. The course supports homework, including a quiz. Students will read either independently or aloud with a parent at home each week to continue the discussion in class and build on what they learned the previous week.
