In this 2 week course, we will read and discuss Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark! This is the first book of the Magic Tree House series! This is a great chapter book for readers who are just getting into chapter books! We will work together and treat this like a book club. The reading will be done at home, so the book is required for this class. We will be discussing the story in class. We will learn how to identify the characters, setting and major events, as well as, asking and answering questions about the book! Your child will be able to discuss and learn with their peers as we all read this wonderful story! Before Class: Read chapters 1, 2 and 3 Class 1: We will discuss what you read in the first 3 chapters. We will get to know the characters and make predictions about what will happen in the story. We will use a printable sheet as we read! Homework: Read chapters 4 and 5. Class 2: We will discuss Chapter 4-5. We will play a fun interactive game to learn new vocabulary in the story and also answer questions about the story. Your child will learn to not only answer questions but also ask questions about the story, as well! Homework: Read chapters 6-7 Class 3: We will continue our discussion about the book and complete activities that go along with the story. There will be handouts to print to bring to class! Homework: Read chapters 8, 9 and 10 Class 4: We will close up the story by discussing the final chapters of the book. My goal is to make reading fun for your child and hopefully introduce them to an exciting series of books with lots of adventures! By having to read before class will give your student a purpose for reading. They will need to make sure that they have a background of the chapters before coming to class so that they can interact with their peers and discuss the book!

Learners will need to have access to Magic Tree House: Dinosaurs Before Dark by Mary Pope Osborne. They will also need the printables for class that will be posted in the classroom tab!
