- On the surface, participants will simply be learning how to play Commander better while having loads of fun. The secret is, they will also be gaining valuable lessons in improving their social skills, their ability to adapt to changing situations, math (don't tell them that), and a host of other life improving skills.
Assessment
Frequency: Available upon requestDetails: Leaners will self-assess their progress. Teacher input is always available to parents regarding their child's progress.
Participants will need a MTG Commander deck of 100 cards.
The manufacturer of Magic the Gathering has this game rated as ages 13 and up. My experience has shown me most children 9 and up are mature enough to play the game. The game does have vampires, zombies and other "creatures," and artistic depictions of those characters, that may disturb some children, though I have never actually heard that was anyone's experience.
To enjoy the class fully, participants will need a camera that can be placed to display their gaming surface. In many cases an external camera can just be adjusted downward to show an area apx 24"x12" ( about the size of a play mat). There are several videos online that show easy ways to set this up.
