In this class, we will be discussing the adventures of Carter as he runs away from his Uncle and finds a new group of kids who may be better at magic than he ever was! But when a mysterious man comes to town and precious things start disappearing from all who encounter the members of the new carnival, Carter has to learn to trust people in ways he never thought possible. Can a random group of misfits be any match for seasoned magicians? Let's find out together! Class will consist of instructor-directed discussion. Discussion topics will include the reader's favorite moments in the story, parts of the story they found scary, or who their favorite characters were and why. The class will conclude with a review of our feelings and opinions as we decide if we would recommend this book to a friend. We will also be discussing different literary elements as they arise such as theme, setting, and climax. Book reports and a list of literary elements will be available in the classroom during the class session. Please do your reading before class time. Psst! You don't have to read all of the books in the series in order to enjoy these stories! All students are asked to have their cameras on as it helps keep students engaged and encourages conversation. Please raise your hand if you are ready to comment and respect the commentary of all other students by not interrupting.
