In this one-time class, students will learn a math trick and have fun. Prerequisite Skills: Subtraction and addition with regrouping!

Class Experience

US Grade 4 - 6

In this class, students will learn math tricks, or if we want to say differently: students will practice a bit of subtraction with regrouping, addition, and work on the concept of place values and recognizing patterns.

This lesson will help them get a better understanding of their arithmetic skills and reinforce their understanding of how same digit can have different values.

At first, I will try to trick them with my math-magic-wand, and then we will work on the math behind.

Students will improve their understanding of:

- place values concepts,
- subtraction with regrouping, and
- pattern recognition.

The goal of the class is for students to have fun and perform different calculations while learning a math trick. 

I will ask them to think of a 3-digit number, give some directions, and then I will let them know the number they have got. Then we will expand this trick even more to get the Magical 1089.
