Students will learn to use the array model (sometimes called the "magic box" to break larger multi-digit numbers down by place value to make the number more manageable when multiplying. As students work through a series of guided and independent equations they will also review place value, multiplication facts, and addition with carrying. The class is structured into three sections. * Teacher modeling -The teacher will demonstrate how to set up and use the array model step-by-step. * Guided Practice- Students will work through a series of equations with teacher input and instruction. * Independent Practice- Students will complete a series of equations and submit them to the teacher for input and further instruction. I believe learning is a hands-on activity. Students will participate in both discussions and with slides. We will use Whiteboard.fi to show student's work in real-time and each student will have an opportunity to receive individualized feedback from the teacher. This class will be recorded and available for students and parents after the class for referral and reteach purposes. Students should have a strong command of basic multiplication facts or access to a multiplication chart for this class. Students will log into the teacher's Whiteboard.fi account to show their work or should be able to have their camera on and show work on paper in the viewfinder.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to multiply multi-digit whole numbers by a one-digit whole number with accuracy using the array model.
