4 live meetings
2 in-class hoursHomework
In between each class, your child should read the chapters as outlined in the course description to be able to participate in the next class meeting. If your child would like to read ahead, he/she can certainly do so---I never want to stop a reader from reading! I always just ask that they don't give away parts to the other readers in the class, especially when it comes to making predictions. I do like to provide learners with an opportunity to engage with the book on days we do not meet by giving a "challenge" activity. This could be something relate to writing, drawing, and/or creating. It is an OPTIONAL activity for your child. Time spent on the challenge would depend on the time you or your child would like to put in to participate in the challenge.Class Experience
US Grade 2 - 3
Please note: If you like the class but can not commit to 4 weeks, I am happy to alter the schedule to meet 2x a week for 2 weeks. Is your child interested in funny books? Love a good mystery? Come join us as we meet Mac B: Kid Spy as he uncovers the truth behind the missing Crown Jewels! Can you help him solve the mystery? This course will provide students an engaging opportunity in an online book club over the course of 4 meetings. We will be reading a book from the New York Times Bestselling book, Mac B. Kid Spy: Mac Uncover by Mac Barnett. Our book club will focus on strengthening your child's reading skills! We will work on reading comprehension, making connections, character development, and partake in some fun hands-on activities that correlate with parts of the story. Through interactive group discussions, games, and even break-out room (when applicable), your child will also have time to practice oral language and social skills! In order to be ready for our first class, please make sure your child has read Chapter 1 before the start of the first class. We will begin our first class by discussing Chapter 1 and beginning to work on plot development and predictions. We will also work on reading Chapter 2 together and students will be invited to read aloud, but not required. It's a great way to practice oral language skills and work on expression! We then will met 3 times thereafter to engage in a fun and exciting book club that will center around games, writing, and discussion. I will be asking guided reading questions and students will be encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about the story. Students will need to read 4 - 5 chapters in between classes to prepare them for the next class. In each meeting, we will discuss the chapters read and have time to do activities related to the book. Another aspect of the class that I like to offer to parents/students, is my weekly class challenge. I will post a challenge activity after each class that allows students to connect with the text through writing, drawing, or a hands on assignment. It is an optional activity but is perfect for families looking for further work between meetings. I encourage students to send me their challenge assignment and I am happy to review it and provide feedback! Class meeting 1: Discuss Chapter 1 (read prior to the start of class) and read together some of Chapter 2, work on activities related to predictions HW: Read Chapters 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 Class meeting 2 Discuss Ch. 2 - 6 and work on activities related to character development HW: Read Chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 Class meeting 3 Discuss Chapters 7 - 11 and work on activities related to comprehension, sequencing, and making connections HW: Read Chapter 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16 Class meeting 4 Discuss Ch 12 - 16 and work on activities related to summarizing, reviewing, and connections Please note: If you do not see a time/date that is conducive to your schedule, please let me know. I am happy to work with you to try to set up a section that works for both our schedules. I am also happy to adjust the class to meet 2x for 2 weeks, just let me know! Finally, if you have a homeschool group/learning co-op or are interested in having only children your child knows, I am happy to set up a private class at no additional cost. The class would contain only those that your child and those that you know who decide to join the class. Thank you and I hope you'll have fun with us in this exciting book!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I believe in sharing the joy of reading and love to help cultivate that in young readers. Reading is the foundation for all learning and I used my experience as a licensed PK -6 teacher, with a Master's in Reading, to develop reading skills during our book club. My work as an elementary school librarian allows me to draw on a variety of literacy activities to help make a positive reading experience. Your child will be drawn into this funny and wild adventure from Mac B: Kid Spy Series. I definitely have an animated and enthusiastic reading style to make the story fun and engaging.
