Mac B: Kid Spy, Book 1: Reading Book Club - 2nd/3rd Grade
Class experience
US Grade 2 - 3
Please note: If you like the class but can not commit to 4 weeks, I am happy to alter the schedule to meet 2x a week for 2 weeks. Is your child interested in funny books? Love a good mystery? Come join us as we meet Mac B: Kid Spy as he uncovers the truth behind the missing Crown Jewels! Can you help him solve the mystery? This course will provide students an engaging opportunity in an online book club over the course of 4 meetings. We will be reading a book from the New York Times...
Students will work on reading comprehension skills as well as making predictions, inferences, and connections. Students will interact verbally and through written response with the text.
I believe in sharing the joy of reading and love to help cultivate that in young readers. Reading is the foundation for all learning and I used my experience as a licensed PK -6 teacher, with a Master's in Reading, to develop reading skills during our book club. My work as an elementary school librarian allows me to draw on a variety of literacy activities to help make a positive reading experience. Your child will be drawn into this funny and wild adventure from Mac B: Kid Spy Series. I definitely have an animated and enthusiastic reading style to make the story fun and engaging.
Homework Offered
In between each class, your child should read the chapters as outlined in the course description to be able to participate in the next class meeting. If your child would like to read ahead, he/she can certainly do so---I never want to stop a reader from reading! I always just ask that they don't give away parts to the other readers in the class, especially when it comes to making predictions. I do like to provide learners with an opportunity to engage with the book on days we do not meet by giving a "challenge" activity. This could be something relate to writing, drawing, and/or creating. It is an OPTIONAL activity for your child. Time spent on the challenge would depend on the time you or your child would like to put in to participate in the challenge.Assessments Offered
Grades Offered
A copy of Mac B., Kid Spy, book 1 (printed book or online/digital version) Students will need paper, writing utensils, and art supplies (like crayons or markers, etc) for the class. Optional: dry erase board and dry erase marker
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I do always recommend previewing the book first or reading reviews about the book to see if it is appropriate for your child.
