Welcome to Lori's Ukulele Lounge; a place where all are accepted and welcome, exactly how they are, for who they are. This specific class is a 1 time Meet N Greet where we'll focus on music, friendship, having a great time and getting to know each other. Participants will learn how the ukulele works, proper hold, methods for tuning, basic finger exercises, down strumming patterns, the Am and CM chord positions and we'll strive to play Shake If Off by Taylor Swift. The class structure will be: Opening Ice Breaker Name Game Pointer Finger Dance Party Movement Warm Up Lori's Mirror Movement & Motion Game Ukulele YouTube String Name Tutorial Echo Strumming for Steady Beat Am & CM Chord Positions & Finger Placements Pointer Finger Dance Party, AGAIN! Shake It Off Play Along Tutorial on YouTube Closing: Details about the upcoming Ukulele Lounge Session My teaching style is interactive, high energy and filled with lots of space for questions, answers and conversation. I am very understanding to everyone's different learning styles and do my best to teach using as many multi-sensory methods (audio, visual, kinesthetic, tactile) as possible. Those who hang out in the Ukulele Lounge will need to know how to tune their instruments, prior to logging in with me. Using the GuitarTuna app on Yousician, purchasing a guitar tuner that has a ukulele tuning setting or finding a free tuner online is perfectly acceptable. Have any questions or want to learn more? Visit www.musicmonkeyjungle.com.
Learning Goals
Students will learn if they'd like to enroll in an upcoming, full session of Lori's Ukulele Lounge.

Supply List
Participants will need a tuner and to be tuned prior to logging in for our class. Zoom settings will also need to be configured with sound cancellation OFF. Please follow these instructions, once you're logged in to Zoom: 1. Go to the drop down menu under Zoom and choose preferences. 2. Click on audio settings. 3. If your version of Zoom is the most up-to-date, in the middle of this screen, it will read “Suppress Background Noise”, set that to LOW. 4. At the bottom of that screen, it will have an advanced option. Click on ADVANCED. 5. Once in advanced settings, click on the box for “Show in-meeting option to enable original sound from microphone” and also click on the box for “high fidelity music mode”. If that box is not on that screen, there will be options for suppress persistent background noise and suppress intermittent background noise. Please set BOTH of those to disable. 6. These instructions are really important to follow for the best sound quality and ease in vocal communication. *Important*- If your musician can log in using a computer or Chromebook, setting preferences is easier than logging in on a phone or tablet.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hey Everyone! My name is Lori and I’m a music teacher writer who plays instruments, choreographs dances and creates movement games. Music has always been “my thing”.
When I was a kid, I took piano lessons, then flute lessons and played in concert band, pit band, jazz band and marching band. I loved band so much, that I wanted to be a high school band director. When I got to college, I had to learn how to take apart, put back together, play and teach all of the instruments in the band and orchestra. Yes, all of them... ALL of them! Can you imagine that? I also performed in choirs and learned the best ways to teach how to sing accurately and in tune. The more I sang, the better my own voice and listening skills became.
My favorite activities have revolved around music, movement and dance. I loved making mix tapes, listening to soundtracks, seeing Broadway shows, watching musical movies, performing in concerts, singing karaoke and going to school dances with my friends. When music was involved, I was the happiest.
After I graduated college, instead of becoming a high school band director, I got a job teaching Kindergarten through 6th grade music. I loved this job because I was given the opportunity to combine my love of education with my love of entertainment and developed a crazy, quirky and brilliant ability to read your mind and figure out how your brain likes to be taught and what entertains you, it’s like magic! I also learned that I have a very witty knack for writing original songs, dances and games that'll definitely get stuck in your head. (Yes, I'm a singer-songwriter and recording artist, too.)
When I'm not teaching on Outschool, I am the Creative Director and CEO of Music Monkey Jungle; an arts hub for music, movement and dance education and entertainment based in Philadelphia, PA, USA. I still make mixes but I now I them in the form of set lists, playlists and videos. I write original songs, dances and games and perform whenever I can. I love telling jokes, playing "Lori Says" (my version of Simon Says), spending time with my family and laughing with friends. My favorite colors are yellow, orange and lime green, my favorite cartoon character is Bugs Bunny, my favorite video game is (currently) Bubble Pop! and my all-time favorite ice cream is Ben & Jerry's Phish Food. I love make-up, jewelry, sparkly things, arts & crafts, Star Wars, Lego Batman (actually ALL the superheroes) and have a fantastic sense of humor (wit and banter). Sign up for one (or all) of my classes and you'll see.... fun is my main goal!
