Class Experience

Loom Knitting for Beginners (age 9-14)

Loom knitting is a fun skill that is relatively easy with practice. There are so many projects you can make with a knitting loom, from scarves to hats, to blankets - the options are endless. In this class we will teach the absolute beginner how to pick up a knitting loom and start their first stitch.

Below is a breakdown of what the first couple of weeks of class will look like:

Week 1: Introduction to the Knitting Loom

Students will be introduced to the knitting loom, pegs, loom hook and needle. Students will learn about the different types and sizes of yarn. There will also be an introduction of the various knitting stitches that can be made on the knitting loom.

Week 2: Cast - On (How to Start Knitting)

This week, students will learn how to cast - on in loom knitting. They will see a demonstration on how to attach the yarn to the knitting loom and start their first stitch. They will begin their first stitches and make a flat panel on the loom

Week 3: The Start of Knitting a Scarf on the Knitting Loom

Students will begin their first knitting project - making a scarf on the knitting loom. Students will knit this scarf with the first stitch they have learned. We will be knitting together as a class, in an effort to develop their skills.

Week 4: Cast - Off (How to End Knitting)

This week, students will learn how to cast - off in loom knitting. They will see a demonstration on how to de-attach the yarn to the knitting loom. We will also cast off the scarf from last week.
