Description
Class Experience
This class is an asynchronous version of my live class "Logically Speaking... Using Math to Build Critical Thinking Skills!" By creating this class as a FLEX, students are able to work on the individual skills at their own pace (see breakdown of topics below). Although we will not be meeting live for the FLEX, I will provide students with the notes, examples, activities and directions needed to seamlessly follow through each lesson. Students will be encouraged to take notes as they move...
In this FLEX class, students will: -use a restaurant menu to practice estimation skills (along with decimal operations) -use clues to determine how to extend a pattern of numbers (some graphing of ordered pairs included) -use inverse operations/mental math to solve emoji puzzles and magic number squares -solve logic problems
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics as well as a Master's Degree in Education with a concentration in STEM. I have created and collected a wide variety of resources to help students engage in a fun and comfortable way while building a strong foundation in mathematics. With 20 years of experience teaching in the classroom coupled with 5+ years of experience teaching online to students with varying abilities and needs, I feel extremely qualified to deliver this instruction to learners via Outschool.
Homework will be to complete the activities of each lesson prior to beginning the next lesson.
It would be nice for students to have a three-ring binder in order to keep track of assignments and notes each week. I will provide a PDF via Outschool messages that will explain to students what needs to be for the week (objective, discussion question, notes and assessment). A calculator and graph paper would be nice items to have, however, when possible, I will suggest websites that may have the tools that a learner may need (example: online calculators).
Students will have the option of submitting work to the classroom for feedback.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
