The instructor will play the piano for students to listen to! The instructor may play baroque, classical, romantic, or modern pieces, as well as jazz or improvisational pieces, traditional, or even original compositions. The instructor will provide gentle music appreciation guidance woven in throughout the class. For instance, after playing a piece by Schumann the instructor may share something young students may find interesting about the composer or the particular piece. By listening to the music quietly, students will learn music appreciation, how to be a polite audience, and will increase their skill of patience, and thoughtfulness. The instructor will encourage students to remain quiet listeners for each piece, and then after the piece students may comment or share their thoughts about the piece. The instructor will gently guide in easy questions to help students think about how the music sounds or makes them feel. While the students are listening to the teacher perform, they are welcome to doodle, color, write, think, or simply listen and relax! This class will be different each and every time, to allow for students to take it as often as they like & be exposed to lots of styles of piano music & many different classical music eras, as well as many different music composers. My goal would be that if students take this class multiple times, they will begin to have an understanding of some basic music terms, and more importantly, develop an internal love of music.
