In this 2-session class, students will learn (or review) the seven elements of art, and create a beautiful composition using each element (Instructor's Note: The element PATTERN has been moved back and forth between the elements and principles for many years. One could argue it belongs in both. For the purposes of this project, the element of Pattern will be replacing the element of FORM, which also can belong in both the elements and principles. 2 lessons//2 Weeks
Week 1Lesson 1Geometric and Organic ShapesWe will discuss SHAPES, focusing on geometric and organic shape, as well different types of lines. We will begin a guided drawing in which a stream of organic and geometric shapes are drawn diagonally across the paper, and then draw lines that outline the sides of the shape, contouring around the paper in concentric fashion.Week 2Lesson 2Color and LineWe will discuss primary, secondary, warm and cool colors, as well as darkness and lightness of colors (value). We will color the geometric shapes with either dark or light colors, and the organic shapes with the opposite. The, after discussing patterns and texture, we will draw patterns on top of the light colors.
