US Grade 4 - 7
Beginner - Intermediate Level
This class is part of my Contemporary Artist Series, in which we learn about artists from the mid-20th century to today, analyze their art style and subject, and make a creation inspired by their art. In this class, we will examine the art style of contemporary artist Jen Aranyi, who is famous on Instagram, practice drawing a simple, abstract mountain range, then outline it with black Sharpies or illustrator pens (see materials list below), and finish the sky with watercolors to create a galaxy-like effect. Students will discuss different ways to finish the foreground (in front of the mountains, such as trees, a river, a camping scene, etc.) and select one for their drawing. Because students work at varied paces, artwork may or may not be finished before class ends. Students who finish after class has ended are encouraged to photograph and upload their creations into the classroom!
