Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner - Intermediate Level
We will discuss the types of winter scenes/objects often found in real snowglobes, look at actual snowglobes, and practice drawing selected themes.
We will draw or trace a large circle on a white piece of paper, and transfer our sketches to the inside of the circle shape.
We will then create a base on the same or additional paper, finalize items and color with the media of students' choice, finally cutting out the whole piece (or pieces, if the circle and base were on two pieces of paper; in which the pieces can be glued with a gluestick).

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Students may need to use scissors to complete the project; parental guidance and observance may be needed for this part of the activity.
Supply List
White paper (drawing paper is best, but copy paper works)
A large lid or other circle to trace OR a compass if the student already has skill in using one. PLEASE NOTE: I will not have time in this class to TEACH how to use a compass, so if chosen, it is important that the student is already comfortable using one!
Pencil, sharpener, eraser
Any of the following for adding color: Crayons, markers, gel pens, colored pencils
Scissors
Glue/gluestick if globe and base were drawn on separate papers
**OPTIONAL:** White, iridescent glitter or glitter glue is a really beautiful addition for snow, but is not necessary, and may not be mentioned in class, but can be used by the student if desired.

Hello! I am a K-12 licensed art teacher. and professional artist. I teach all kinds of art, including drawing, painting, pottery, fibers, sculpture, art history and culture, and frequently integrate math, literacy and other subjects with my art lessons! I received my Bachelors of Fine Art and teaching credentials from Metropolitan State College of Denver and my M.Ed. from the University of Colorado-Boulder. I have actually taught all ages, from 5 to adult! It is my passion to give students a safe and supportive place to develop their skills and a sense of accomplishment through the creative process. My teaching style is relaxed and nurturing, but sometimes I can't help but get really excited when I see a student make a connection or just simply feel successful! I also love to incorporate other content areas in my art classes whenever appropriate. Many of my lessons for younger kids are inspired by children's books. Projects for older kids might include history or culture. I also love to teach about famous artists of the past and present and bring their styles and processes into my art lessons.

Though art education has always been a space for nurturing students' social-emotional well-being. I recently completed my SEL certification, and am adding more art classes with a SEL focus to my catalog.

As a professional artist, I have participated in numerous group and solo exhibitions, sold my paintings and wares, and have been commissioned to do numerous murals in private homes as well as public spaces. My most well-known of which is the background on 3 walls of the tide pool exhibit in the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, CO. Most recently, my painting of giant sunflowers was reproduced on a traffic box on a street corner in Thornton, CO. I also make and sell art of all kinds, locally on a smaller scale. In addition to loving art, my husband and I love animals and currently share our home with a dog, two cats, and various birds and squirrels that visit our back yard every day. We love to travel, in particular to the gorgeous Rocky Mountains in our beautiful state of Colorado.
