US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Using my guided drawing process, students will use simple lines, shapes and patterns to create their own adorable toucan. We will examine the shapes and colors of beaks, bodies and feathers, practice those shapes, and draw a toucan. We will finish it using black Sharpies, colored pencils, and markers (optional). Background knowledge of lines, shapes and patterns, and how they are used to create a work of art are helpful, but not necessary. An hour of drawing/coloring on their own time might be needed for students who work more slowly, but not necessary. It is important to note that I take all learning styles and needs into account and scaffold the instruction and wait time for students to finish accordingly. As some students finish quickly, they may be directed to take a break or begin a new drawing, so that others who work more slowly are given the time to keep up with artists who work more quickly.

As a licensed art teacher, I have developed techniques for breaking down drawing lessons into simple, easy-to-follow steps. Once we get the basics done, I give my students freedom to complete their project using their own imagination, thereby giving them the opportunity to take what I have taught them to a different, fun and creative level.
