Disease. Famine. Lack of privacy. Being really really really old at 35. No books? No sugar? We'll tackle each of these topics and more in this one-time class about living like "royalty." Students will learn a combination of ancient history (focusing on the Medieval ages and a sprinkle of other cultures like the Myan and Egyptions.) I teach using a combination of lectures and slide shows while leaving plenty of time for positive interaction and questions. I’d really appreciate it if students wore purple (or red), brought a sugary snack, and had a favorite book on hand. These tangible items will help the lesson come alive. No prior experience is needed to take this class. Students will enjoy the quirky historical facts. Most of all, I hope they cultivate gratitude for modern luxuries that would blow a king's mind. Let's get over the idea of the good old days.
Learning Goals
- Students will learn about the exciting life and times of past royalty
- Students will learn to analyze and interpret modern living through the lens of the past
- Students will learn gratitude (hopefully - ha!)

I am a professional educator and musician who writes songs about historical people. I love what I do and strive to make each class (and performance!) as creative and interdisciplinary as possible. I enjoy turning to the past for creative inspiration. I also have extensive experience working with Davidson Young Scholars in the profoundly gifted population and with twice-exceptional learners.
