In this young writer’s class, students will draw a picture and brainstorm a sentence or title to describe the picture. We will look at a rubric that shows numbers that indicate the beginning stages of writing to more advanced stages. 1-This is where we start for a good picture. 2-This is where we begin to add some details. 3-This is where we add more details, color, and try to sound out/spell a word for our picture. 4- This is where we continue to add details, color, and a title or...
Students will learn from the writing section of the rubric that a sentence starts with a capital letter and ends with a punctuation mark. They will also learn the importance of spacing between the words. In the drawing section of the rubric, students will learn how to start with a simple picture and add details to it. Students will learn that we can make up a title or sentence to describe our picture. Students will look at the drawing part of the rubric to see examples of details that can be added to a picture to make it more interesting and tell a story.
