Little Writer's Nook -Spelling, Sentences, Grammar, Write for Fun!

Each week we will look at 1-2 sounds (long vowels & digraphs), make a class word wall, then use these words to write sentences. We'll also learn about sentences, grammar, other elements of writing & have time to share.

Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
***Please ask if you would like to take this class, but require a different time.

Calling all learners who want to improve their spelling and sentence writing, and who have a curiosity about the many ways a sound can be spelled in English! We will also touch on a variety of writing components; some grammar and mechanics (parts of speech, parts of a sentence, punctuation) and some stylistic elements such as alliteration, writing for a particular audience and fiction vs. non-fiction.

The format for class will be as follows:
1. Welcome and introductions as needed.
2. Mini writing lesson.
3. Mini spelling lesson.
4. Learners will brainstorm words with focal sound to create class word wall that shows the many ways a sound can be spelled.
5. Learners will use words from the word wall to write sentences, also practicing what they learned about writing when appropriate.
6. Depending on class composition and student needs we will edit and share as we write or at the end of class.

This class will provide encouragement for writers and maybe even some silly sentences. It will not be about correcting everything, but instead about taking small steps and finding joy along the way. As I get to know students I will be able to offer the right feedback for each one to keep them moving forward.

Being an ongoing class, students can choose which classes they would like to attend.
