Class Experience

This ongoing class will be a social group for learners in the ages of 5-7. During our class we will utilize speaking and listening skills, while functioning collaboratively with zoom norms for discussion topics. Little learners benefit from sharing their favorites, and listening to friends and peers their age! Each week will have a thematic element for discussion covering topics such as books, hobbies, movies, crafts, games, toys, food and fun questions to get to know each other. Through this social time, students will hopefully build friendships and an increased sense of esteem through conversation. Learners are also encouraged to bring something to share with the group each week: such as a favorite toy, game, book, etc; all learners can also come dressed up in their favorite costumes if they would like, but this is definitely an optional extra.

Each class session will begin with a friendly greeting from the teacher to the classmates followed by a question of the day for learners to answer for the group, an example of a question might be: 'What is the best thing about being 6?" or "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Starting the discussion with a direct question and answer session allows learners to practice speaking and listening while allowing for the opportunity for the teacher to point out our similar interests to build relationships. After the classroom discussion, learners will have the opportunity to share something with the group one at a time before we close the class with googbyes.

I can't wait to see your learner in our little social club!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome! I have had more than 10 years of experience in education as an Elementary School classroom teacher, working with all ages of children in grades K-6. I am recognized as a Nationally Board Certified Teacher, currently teaching third grade at a local elementary school.

Engagement is a priority for successful learning. It is my personal belief that all students can be excited about learning. It is my job as a teacher to ignite a passion, a willingness, and an educational excitement in each individual to promote critical thinking and questioning. I believe that when students are engaged in the content, they not only retain the new information, but they also begin to think about new information with an open mind and heart. We learn from the children. I believe it is my job to promote a culture of cognitive learning and social learning. I believe I am a stepping stone along a lifelong journey for each individual in my classroom. I know that each student in my classroom will grow up to contribute to our society, and do great work. I take each day to learn something from my students, I adapt my teaching and my lessons to meet their changing needs. I believe teaching must change to meet the students needs, and that I must constantly be working to teach my students to be prepared for tomorrow, rather than teaching to catch up to what has been in the past. I believe I am educating students for jobs that I can not foresee, but I can teach them to problem solve and use creativity to make anything possible.

I am passionate about cultivating enriching learning experiences for students of all ages and backgrounds. While I enjoy teaching all subject areas, my favorite subject is Science! My other hobbies include cooking and crafting. I am an avid believer in practicing mindfulness strategies and techniques for a calmer life and to create and find balance.

I will be offering classes in directed drawing, growth mindset activities and crafts, social club to deepen social and emotional awareness, STEM and Science classes, and educationally relevant courses for Elementary aged learners. I look forward to meeting you in the classroom!
