Thelma Mothershed Minnijean Brown Jefferson Thomas Terrence Roberts Carlotta Walls Gloria Ray Ernest Green Elizabeth Eckford Melba Pattillo Come join me in this class to learn about how ordinary children, like you, made an extraordinary difference in our nation. In this lesson, students will learn about the Little Rock Nine from Central High in Little Rock, Arkansas. We will begin by learning about school segregation, which was finally declared unconstitutional with Brown v. Board of Education. From there, students will learn how many schools in the south ignored the Supreme Court ruling. They will also learn how political leaders became road blocks for school integration. The lesson will progress to the actual series of events involving the nine students who successfully attended Central High School. We will read about how brave they were when mistreated by white students. We will learn about some of their accomplishes later in life. This lesson will be lead by text through PowerPoint. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to take turns reading the text. There will be some comprehension questions at the end of class. Students will be encouraged, but not required, to answer questions. All through class, Mrs. Rebecca will facilitate discussion about the topic. Again, students will be encouraged, but not required, to participate in our discussions all through class. Students should come to class with, at least, a basic understanding of events in the Civil Rights Movement. Many thanks goes out to Teaching to the Middle for allowing me to use their product as a resource for this class.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have done a great deal of research on this topic and have taught this event several times in public schools. This class will address racial issues in a very sensitive way. This lesson is all about how these nine students were big-time heroes!
