Little Ones Get to Know the Piano! a Montessori-Inspired Introduction
In this one-time, 30 minute course, young learners will get to know the piano! We’ll spend time learning why the piano is an instrument, how and what parts of our bodies we use to make sounds with it.
Class experience
We will begin by learning what makes the piano an instrument. What part of the piano makes sound and why? Then, we will learn what parts of our bodies we use to make the sound come from the instrument. I'll cover this portion of the class by demonstrating at my own piano and asking students to raise hands to answer questions. If the student has their own piano/keyboard - great! They can also demonstrate at home. However, no instrument is required for this first class. We will then...
The learning goals in this first class are: 1. Understand why a piano is considered an instrument 2. Know how to produce sound from the instrument 3. Identify some of the different sounds that the instrument can make 4. Find and name our first note name each time it appears on the keyboard
