Unit 1: El Océano is a 6-week Spanish unit where students learn to read, listen, speak, and write in Spanish as they explore ocean animals and habitats through stories, songs, and engaging activities.

Beginner Level
In this engaging 6-week Spanish class, young learners will meet once a week in small groups for 25-minute sessions designed to build a strong foundation in the Spanish language—no prior experience required! Each class includes a review of previous material, introduction of new vocabulary, and joyful songs to support learning. We’ll be using the delightful Llamitas Spanish curriculum, which is specially designed for children ages 3–12. This class focuses on Level 1, Unit 1: El Océano (The Ocean), where students will learn ocean-themed vocabulary while developing skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Spanish. Through colorful slides, interactive songs, themed worksheets, and simple phrases, your child will begin their Spanish journey in a fun and meaningful way. To thrive in this course, students must review material daily and come to each class prepared to participate. Parents are encouraged to support their child's learning by reviewing worksheets and helping memorize all songs and vocabulary at home. Classes build upon each other, so consistent practice is essential. Missed classes cannot be made up live, but recordings will be provided. Looking Ahead: Level 1 includes 12 thematic units, each lasting 6 weeks: - El Océano (The Ocean) - La Granja (The Farm) - El Jardín (The Garden) - El Safari (The Safari) - La Selva (The Jungle) - La Familia (Family) - Las Mascotas (Pets) - Las Frutas y Verduras (Fruits and Vegetables) - El Transporte (Transportation) - Los Servidores Públicos (Community Helpers) - El Espacio (Space) Spanish use grows with each unit, making this a beautiful and effective language journey for your child!
