US Grade Kindergarten - 2
This class meets weekly to talk about travel and different countries around the world. At each meeting we will learn about and discuss a different country. We will cover some basic geography and find the country is on a map (feel free to bring your globe!), practice speaking a few words in the local language(s) and then focus on different aspects of the countries we visit each week- we may cover the flag, food, history, culture, festivals and celebrations, largest cities, beautiful old towns, natural beauty, wildlife, music, legends and mythology and more but I change up the different aspects we focus on each week to keep the class exciting. The class is also interactive- each week I hide elements in my presentation that the learners are invited to find. An international 'Where's Waldo' of sorts! Each week after class I will post a worksheet with fun facts and a puzzle or activity as well as a passport stamp to cut out and paste on their passport page. My classes are designed to be inclusive and discussion based so that kids can learn while practicing their own social and conversation skills- this is a great class for both native English speakers as well as those students who speak English as a second language. I will call on all students during the class but there is no requirement to speak- listening is a great skill too! Students are encouraged to share their own knowledge and experiences with the class. As with all ongoing classes, students are welcome at any time and no prior knowledge is needed. There is no fixed amount of content that we will cover each week and I will take the lead from the students on how fast/slow we progress through the lesson. I have travelled to over 55 countries and lived in 7 countries including Australia, the USA, Germany, Canada, Tanzania, the UK, and Belgium- I can't wait to share some of my own experiences of lifetime of travel with your little learners! The class will roughly follow this schedule but students are also welcome to suggest other countries for future classes (including their own countries!) Week beginning (Monday): May 1: USA May 8: France May 15: Australia May 22: Thailand May 29: Germany June 5: India June 12: Tanzania June 19: Iceland June 26: Mexico July: Vacation August 7: Scotland August 14: Egypt August 21: Brazil August 28: Finland September 4: Italy Other countries to be visited: Canada, Vietnam, Fiji, Portugal, Japan, Sweden and more to come! ** Please note I take breaks for travel during summer and winter holidays and my own kids' school vacations- they are listed in the schedule above ** So far we have visited 22 unique countries and counting!
