25 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
In this class, we will go on a scavenger hunt around the house (or our bedroom) to find things that are different colors - can you find something blue? Can you find something green? Bring back something pink! We will also look for shapes in our house - can you bring back a triangle? Show me something that looks like a circle. And we will also talk about size and texture - bring back something big and green! Can you find something small and red? Can you bring back a big square and a small square? Show me something soft! Now, can you show me something hard? This dynamic class will use movement to keep learners engaged and a show-and-tell approach to their discoveries that will help them with social skills (taking turns talking, for example) and speaking in front of groups of their peers. This class can be taken as many times as you want to - it will be a different scavenger hunt each time. Esta clase está disponible en español. Teacher expertise and credentials
Wisconsin Teaching Certificate in Mathematics
Hello! I am a middle school teacher teaching math, Spanish, and English as a second language (ESL). I also have a background in business, having helped get several businesses up and running and working in Human Resources for 4 years. I hold master's degrees in math, curriculum, and business administration. I believe learning should be fun, and so should teaching! I always say, if I'm bored, I know my students are, so I never let it happen. Games, fun activities, songs, and silliness are the rule in my classroom every day. I also believe strongly in personalized instruction, reaching students where they are in the learning process, whether they are struggling or ahead of their peers. I speak Spanish fluently and I'm learning Chinese and ASL right now also! I have also worked professionally making specialty cakes and I've done a lot of work with fondant and frosting techniques, and a ton of crafts, like cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, and making homemade piñatas.
I have been teaching math both online and in the classroom for years, everything from middle school remedial level math all the way to AP calculus. I've taught everything from exploratory Spanish all the way to Spanish 5 as well, and I've done bilingual education in social studies, math, science, and various other elective courses.
