Class Experience

US Grade Preschool - Pre-Kindergarten
This class will use worksheets and manipulatives such as toys or counters to teach number sense. We will learn numbers from 0-20, including the numerals and the number names, and also learn the names of 2D shapes (square, triangle, etc.). We will also learn to say what number comes before or after a number (for example, what number comes before 3? what number comes after 3?). We will practice counting objects to help learners develop number sense. We will practice adding objects up to a total of 10 (one group of 3 and one group of 6, for example). We will also compare groups (which group has more teddy bears?) and compare size (which triangle is bigger?) Each week's class will have a set of worksheets that the students can do during class. Each class is a stand-alone class and students can join at any time and be able to follow along successfully.

The class will follow this agenda:

week 1: numbers 0-5, what comes before, what comes after
week 2: review, numbers 0-5, what comes before, what comes after

Hello! I am a middle school teacher teaching math, Spanish, and English as a second language (ESL). I also have a background in business, having helped get several businesses up and running and working in Human Resources for 4 years. I hold master's degrees in math, curriculum, and business administration. I believe learning should be fun, and so should teaching! I always say, if I'm bored, I know my students are, so I never let it happen. Games, fun activities, songs, and silliness are the rule in my classroom every day. I also believe strongly in personalized instruction, reaching students where they are in the learning process, whether they are struggling or ahead of their peers. I speak Spanish fluently and I'm learning Chinese and ASL right now also! I have also worked professionally making specialty cakes and I've done a lot of work with fondant and frosting techniques, and a ton of crafts, like cross stitch, knitting, crocheting, and making homemade piñatas.

I have been teaching math both online and in the classroom for years, everything from middle school remedial level math all the way to AP calculus. I've taught everything from exploratory Spanish all the way to Spanish 5 as well, and I've done bilingual education in social studies, math, science, and various other elective courses.
