1. Students will learn about key men and women who made contributions during the Civil Rights Era. Class Structure: Classroom Discussion using graphic organizers and critical thinking questions. Teaching Style: Facilitator Learners will interact with the teacher by answering questions and writing in their interactive notebooks. Learners will be encouraged to share their thoughts on the information given during class. Week 1 Students will learn about the key events that led to the beginning of the Civil Rights movement in America "Stony the Road" by Henry Louis Gates. Week 2 Students will learn about the key African Americans who desegregated schools in the south during the Civil Rights movement Stony the Road" by Henry Louis Gates. Week 3 Students will learn about the key events and people that took place from 1960-1963 that made an impact during the Civil Rights movement "Stony the Road" by Henry Louis Gates. Week 4 Students will learn about the key events and people that took place from 1964-1969 that made an impact during the Civil Rights movement Stony the Road" by Henry Louis Gates.
Learning Goals
Students will gain knowledge of notable African American women and men who were the shakers and movers of the Civil Rights movement.

We will use the book "Stony the Rod" by Henry Louis Gates and "How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote and Insisted on Equality for All" by Martha S. Jones.

I taught public school for 33 years. I was a middle school social studies teacher for 17 years. I also taught social studies on the high school level 4 years. My specialist degree is in middle grades with a concentration on social studies.
