Class Experience

Students will learn about 5 different composers and 6 famous artists and/or art periods. They will also practice important fine motor and critical thinking skills. I encourage self-expression and encourage learners to explore art and music while also learning to interact with fellow classmates in a virtual offline setting.
I am an experienced art teacher who has been teaching art classes for Pre-K to high school students both locally and online. I am a dance instructor and professional artist, as well as an unschooling mom of my own three Little Einsteins! I teach tap and body percussion, which is a form of rhythmic dance that requires critical music listening skills, and ballet, which frequently features classical music. I also teach an Outschool class on classical composers and famous ballets. I've spent many years learning a variety of musical instruments, including violin, piano and recorder. As an art teacher, I offer multiple modern art history courses on Outschool that also feature hands-on crafts and art projects.
After each weekly video, learners are guided through a craft project that may require extra time depending on your learner and how detailed they would like to be with their creations.

A detailed supply list will also be provided upon enrollment: Week 1 (Springtime Tulips): craft/art paper, tempera paints and paintbrushes and a fork (plastic or silverware). Week 2 (Rocket Dance): create a rocket ship with a toilet paper tube. Decorate with printable template and attach ribbons and/or tissue paper (any width/length). Misc craft supplies, such as scissors, tape, glue, glitter glue, buttons, sequins, etc. Week 3 (Papyrus Scroll): sheet of brown paper (paper shopping bag or butcher paper), glue, paintbrushes and tempera paints. Week 4 (Woven Tapestry): construction paper in at least two colors, glue, scissors and scotch tape. Week 5 (Australian Animals): Playdough, whether store bought or handmade. Recipe is provided upon enrollment if you choose to DIY air-dry or playdough clay. You can also purchase oven-baked clay and follow the directions on the packet to bake. Playdough is a temporary clay structure, so if you'd like to keep your creation longer, you might opt for the air-dry or oven-baked clay. Other supplies to have on hand: toothpicks, dough roller and wax paper or table cover to avoid sticky dough.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will be using scissors to cut paper and may require supervision for their craft projects.
We will refer to the television show, Little Einsteins, throughout the course. Limited clips are used in compliance with Fair Use laws (U.S.) for critique only. All other materials provided are created for limited distribution by Astrid Turner for the purpose of this course.
