Introduce your child to the joys of healthy eating with our ongoing cooking and nutrition class. This class teaches kids ages 5-8 to create delicious, nutritious recipes through fun, hands-on cooking lessons.

Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this one time class, children will learn the basics of healthy cooking and nutrition. They will gain practical cooking skills, understand the importance of balanced meals, and discover how to make a tasty recipe that are good for them. Learners will build independence as they complete steps on their own, such as measuring ingredients or mixing, fostering a sense of accomplishment and self-reliance. This class features simple, age-appropriate, easy-to-follow recipes and easy-to-handle ingredients. The goal of these classes is to combine education with fun, ensuring that children learn valuable skills and habits in a way that feels enjoyable and rewarding. 

~ Possible Topics Covered:
* Introduction to kitchen safety and hygiene
* Basic cooking techniques (chopping, mixing, measuring)
* Understanding food groups and balanced meals
* Healthy habit education and benefits of healthy food and drinks
* Creating simple, healthy breakfasts, lunches, snacks, and dinners
* Exploring fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, and dairy
* Fun facts about nutrition and the benefits of healthy eating
*Seasonal and cultural recipes

~ Class Structure:
* Introduction (5 minutes): Greeting learners, overview of the day’s lesson and objectives.
* Nutrition Education (10 minutes): Interactive discussion or activity about nutrition related to the day’s recipe.
* Hands-On Cooking (25 minutes): Guided cooking activity where children follow along with the teacher.
* Q&A and Sharing (5 minutes): Opportunity for learners to ask questions and share their creations.

~ Teaching Style:
My teaching style is interactive, engaging, and supportive. I focus on making learning fun and accessible, encouraging children to be curious and creative in the kitchen. I use a variety of teaching methods to cater to different learning styles, including visual aids, hands-on activities, and storytelling.

~ Recipes will be posted in the classroom on Sunday night prior to the class, so that all learners and families will have time to shop and prepare as necessary. Each class pop-up class will have a different recipe, so this class can be taken more than once!

~ Learners should have access to basic cooking and baking supplies, such as measuring cups, measuring spoons, mixing bowls, a spatula, a spoon for mixing, a baking sheet and a 13x9 (or similar) baking pan.

Learning Goals

Understand Kitchen Safety: Children will learn essential kitchen safety rules, including proper handling of utensils and basic hygiene practices.

We have experience working with learners of all abilities, including ADHD, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ASD and more. Learners of all abilities are welcomed and encouraged to join us in class. Please contact us for more information.
