Little Birders- Drawing Realistic Birds (Ages 6-8) Nature Drawing Course
Class experience
Have you ever seen someone’s realistic drawing and thought, “HOW did they do that?” You may think that some people are natural artists and others aren’t, but even those gifted with a nature talent will drastically improve their skills by understanding the fundamentals of their subject matter, and by learning simple tricks about how art behaves. That means that anyone can improve by learning these things too. This is a confidence building class for your nature and art lovers. In this one...
Learn simple tricks of observation to improve the accuracy of their drawings Learn artistic techniques to improve the character of their drawings Basic knowledge of parts of a bird (songbirds) Learn to draw from reference photos as practice for more in depth drawings, or for documenting birds from life for nature journaling The goal is not just for your student to follow along and copy a realistic bird, but give them the tools to be able to go away and continue to draw beautiful, expressive and realistic birds on their own.
Homework Offered
Assessments Offered
Again, students are welcome to send me images of the birds they draw with their new skills for feedback after the course is finished.Grades Offered
5 files available upon enrollmentScrap paper for practice drawing Printed color references (can be black and white) Paper for bird drawings- I recommend something heavier than printer paper so that final drawings will not be flimsy, and no larger than 5x7 or 8x10. Students have more success in practice when forced to draw within a more manageable area. If student is really proud of work it might be disappointing to have done it on printer paper, but anything without lines is acceptable. If students already have an art or nature journal they are welcome to use it. Pencil- this can be a drawing pencil, or a regular pencil. Mechanical pencils are fine, but they can be difficult to erase because they indent the paper. Sharpener Eraser Optional: clip board
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Each class I will share a page from my non-fiction children's book "Little Birder: A Field Guide to Birds of the Alphabet." It is not required that they have this book.
