Class Experience

In this ballet class for beginners, students will begin class by introducing themselves. We will share our names, ages, and a fun fact in order to make new friends inside the classroom. After introductions and fun facts have been shared, we will move into a warm up to prepare for dancing. Warm up will include a stretching sequence as well as a few games to get the dancers imagination and creativity flowing. Next, students will be taught a few basic ballet principals and we will practice the steps together. We will use the steps we learned to make a beautiful ballerina dance to perform at the end of class!
No previous dance experience is required to enroll in this course, class is open to all levels of dancers.
General Schedule:
Week 1 - Intro to ballet; Learn your basics, meet your bar and find positions
Week 2 - Say hi to your feet; point, flex, turn out, tendu, and all the other fun things your feet can do
Week 3 - Get ready to jump; Plie, releve, how to jump and land
Week 4 - Time to turn; Passe, spotting, how to use your arms in a turn
Learning Goals
Students will learn new dance vocabulary and technique while having fun, getting some exercise, and expressing themselves. As this is a ballet course, students will learn specifically about ballet technique, but more importantly how to care for their bodies so they can stay active throughout their whole lives. The number one goal of this class is to spread the love of dance and performing arts and encourage creativity.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
Parental Guidance is always suggested for classes that are physically active, however this is not mandatory. As a teacher, I will be showing students how to dance with care and prevent injury. Please make sure your student has proper footwear and clothing, access to water, and a clear space to move before class begins in order to insure their safety.
Supply List
Please have students wear clothing that is comfortable and easy to move in. Leotard and tights are recommended but not required. Ballet shoes are always suggested, as they are an important part of keeping dancer's feet safe. Students should have their hair pulled back away from the face so it won't get in the way while dancing (a classic ballet bun is always a good way to go). Water should be close by so the student can stay hydrated through out class, as water breaks will be given often. This course is designed to be done in the possibly restricted/small area of the home, but make sure the student has a flat, clean surface to dance on and that they will not hit anything in the surrounding area while dancing.

Teacher expertise and credentials
As a professional dancer myself, I have many years of experience and training in the world of dance. In addition to being a performer, I have training in physical therapy which ensures that I can help prevent dance related injuries in my students. I have been teaching both dance and wellness and recovery for many years now and am very excited to share this knowledge with the students of Outschool to make sure their learning experience is the best it can be.
