What's included
1 live meeting
35 mins in-class hoursHomework
There’s no specific homework, but artists may want to continue to create more or finish their project after class.Assessment
Throughout the class, I will have artists share their work with me to see their progress and ask questions as they arise.Class Experience
Gingerbread houses are colorful, fun and happy! Let’s meet in the studio and design our own with beautiful oil pastels. We will open our class with some brief conversation to get to know one another and understand the goal of the project and the supplies needed. Artists will be shown live, step-by-step, how to draw the house and all of the decoration possibilities by my additional art camera and shared screen. We will trace our pencil with black ink and then add layers of oil pastel colors to make it festive and fun. We will learn how they can have a more painterly effect when layered. We will talk about how to design our houses and all the options we have. It is so fun to see the simple shapes and lines come together! Artists will have options to embellish their houses the way they want to and I will share my ideas for inspiration. While we are drawing we will share respectful conversation about our drawings and the holiday season! Supplies needed: - Mixed media or art paper - Oil pastels in a variety of colors (These are NOT powdery and they WILL say “oil” on the package; please be specific in checking what you buy, thank you!) - Pencil - Eraser - Black Sharpie marker - Extra printer paper may be needed I look forward to seeing you soon!
Learning Goals
My goal is for artists to have fun creating colorful artwork from a new perspective they may not have tried and to continue to experiment on their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from UCLA
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from UCLA and have enjoyed working with vibrant colors through markers, paints, chalk pastels and more. My personal style, as reflected in my own artwork over the years, is more abstract, graphic, and even impressionistic. I worked with young learners for several years when I was in charge of a volunteer- lead art program that focused on art elements and the art masters. We did many different thematic projects and used different media each month. I continue to search for and develop more projects incorporating fun compositions and techniques. I love discovering how one technique can have unexpected results and even be used in new ways. Sharing these colorful and simple ideas with young artists is exciting - I often learn from them as well as they express themselves!
