Each week we will learn will follow a weekly continent theme and learn about 1 of the 7 continents, 1 country, do an arts and crafts activity, a STEAM / STEM project and cook a new dish! 28 lessons including STEM, arts, science and more!

4+ hours per week. Learners will have assignments to complete each day as outlined in the class description.

Class Experience

Hello Little Adventurers! 

In this FLEX class you will receive a pre-recorded video and activities 4 days every week and each week is themed around a different continent! 

Each week learners will be provided with a workbook for the week. This workbook will include worksheets and further activities to do at home! For the art and science activities, learners will have their own instructions that they may follow! The workbook will also have an additional arts and crafts project and STEAM project that learners may complete. 

Assignments- our assignments are all in video or photo form and facilitate interaction between learners:
-After Monday's class learners will be asked to design a flag for the continent based on their learning. Learners can share their flag in the form of a video explaining their flag. Learners should watch other videos and share their (positive) thoughts! 
-After Tuesday's trip to the country learners will have to pack their suitcases and share in the classroom!
-After Wednesday's craft learners can share a photograph and look at the crafts created by others! 
-After Thursday learners should make a video explaining what they learnt / found out from the experiment! Did everyone come to the same conclusion as you?

Week 1 - Asia
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to Asia! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday -Little Adventurers Travel to China! We will virtually travel to the country of China and visit some of the famous landmarks and places of interest! 
Wednesday - Little Artists Create a Japanese Carp Windsock! Learners can follow the video at their own pace to create a beautiful Windsock! 
Thursday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "How do hot air balloons fly?" while visiting Turkey!
Bonus recipe: Fried Rice

Week 2 - Africa
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to Africa! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday -Little Adventurers Travel to Ethiopia! We will virtually travel to the country of Ethiopia and visit some of the famous landmarks and places of interest! 
Wednesday - Little Artists Create a Mbira (thumb piano)! Learners can follow the video at their own pace to create a thumb piano! 
Thursday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "How can we measure temperature?" while visiting the Danakil Depression!
Bonus recipe: Couscous!

Week 3 - North America
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to North America! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday -Little Adventurers Travel to Canada! We will virtually travel to the country of Canada and visit some of the famous landmarks and places of interest! 
Wednesday - Little Artists Create a Ojo de Dios! Learners can follow the video at their own pace to create a God's Eye! 
Thursday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "How do polar bears stay warm?" while visiting the Arctic!
Bonus Recipe: Pupusas!

Week 4 - South America
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to South America! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday -Little Adventurers Travel to Argentina! We will virtually travel to the country of Argentina and visit some of the famous landmarks and places of interest! 
Wednesday - Little Artists Create a Paper Chain Snake! Learners can follow the video at their own pace to create a snake! 
Thursday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "How does it rain?" while visiting the Amazon Rainforest!
Bonus Recipe: Cheese Balls! 

Week 5 - Europe
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to Europe! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday -Little Adventurers Travel to Iceland! We will virtually travel to the country of Iceland and visit some of the famous landmarks and places of interest! 
Wednesday - Little Artists Create a Stained Glass Window! Learners can follow the video at their own pace to create a beautiful window! 
Thursday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "Can you make a volcano?" while visiting the Icelandic Volcanoes!
Bonus Recipe: Pizza! 

Week 6 - Oceania / Australia
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to Oceania! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday -Little Adventurers Travel to Australia! We will virtually travel to the country of Australia and visit some of the famous landmarks and places of interest! 
Wednesday - Little Artists Create a Didgeridoo! Learners will create a didgeridoo! 
Thursday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "How do sharks float?"!
Bonus Recipe: Fairy Bread!

Week 7 - Antarctica (This will be a shorter week since there are no countries in Antarctica)
Monday -Little Adventurers Travel to Antarctica! Learners will cover key facts about the continent including location, relative size and key features!
Tuesday - Little Artists Create a Snow Globe! Learners can follow the video at their own pace to create their own snow globe! 
Wednesday - Little STEAM Adventurers will investigate: "How can we melt ice?"!
Bonus recipe: Dried Fruit!

At the end of week 7 learners will also have a bonus workbook that will review the 7 continents with further activities and a "Make a Map of the 7 Continents" activity!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
-Worksheets provided in the workbook vary in difficulty from drawing and colouring to writing. Grownups are welcome to pick and chose activities based on their learner's ability and level. -Please supervise learners fully and support where needed during crafts, STEAM and cooking projects to ensure safe use of all equipment. -Allergy warning - please ensure all ingredients are safe for your learners and substitute where needed.
Supply List
For cooking projects, basic household supplies include mixing bowls, saucepans, wooden spoons, knives (adult use or child friendly knives)

Week 1- Asia: 
Craft: Card/ Construction Paper / Tissue Paper / Scissors / Glue / String / Hole Puncher
STEAM: Empty bottle / Balloon / Hot water 
Ingredients: Rice / Soy sauce / Eggs / Seasonings to taste / Vegetables or cooked meat of choice (carrots, broccoli, sweetcorn, chicken, shrimps... pretty much anything can be put into fried rice)

Week 2- Africa: 
Craft: Lollipop Sticks / Bobby Pins / Card / Tape / Glue or tape /  Scissors
STEAM: Rubbing Alcohol / Food colouring / A clear bottle / Straw (clear or faintly coloured - the food colouring should be visible through the straw) / Permanent marker
Ingredients: Couscous / Any vegetable learners wish to add (tomatoes, sweetcorn...) / Any meats/ fish (I love to put salmon and tuna in!) / Seasonings to taste

Week 3- North America: 
Craft: 2 lollipop sticks / scissors / glue / yarn
STEAM: 2 ziplock bags / A large bowl filled with ice and water / Shortening - such as butter, margarine or lard
Ingredients: Flour / Salt / Oil / Toppings of choice 

Week 4- South America: 
Craft: coloured card / scissors / glue
STEAM: Clear glass / jar / Shaving foam / Blue food colouring (or any other colour) / Dropper / pipette / Water
Ingredients: Cheese (mozzarella works best) / eggs / flour / oil for deep frying 


Week 5 - Europe: 
Craft:  Coloured card / Tissue Paper / Scissors / Clear liquid glue & brush / Piece of  plastic (you can use plastic from a sandwich bag, clear plastic document pockets / poly pockets, plastic bag) 
STEAM: 1 lemon cut in half (a lime or orange would also work)  /Food colouring / Baking soda / powder and spoon / Dish Soap / Tray or plate / Fork
Ingredients: Pizza Dough: Flour / Baking Powder / Salt / Olive Oil (or premade pizza dough) / Tomato puree / Cheese / Toppings of choice

Week 6 - Oceania: 
Craft: empty toilet rolls / tape or glue / decorations (paint, markers, glitter, feathers ...)
STEAM: 2 small bottles / Oil  / A large tub/bowl of water (large enough for the bottle to float /sink)
Ingredients: Bread / Butter / Sprinkles of Choice 

Week 7: 
Craft: Clear jar / Water / Clear glue / Glitter / Hot glue gun / Optional: Antarctic Animals (penguins, whales...)
STEAM: Ice cubes / muffin tray / things that can be used to melt ice - learners can try and brainstorm some ideas before the activity. Examples: brushes / water 
Ingredients: Fruits (apples recommend) / access to an oven

I am pretty animated when I teach so my teaching style is energetic but easygoing. Mute/Unmute: We try not to mute learners during class. If your learner has background noise they may be muted and this will be communicated to them. Please make sure that learners are able to unmute their microphones or grownups are nearby to support.

Technical Issues: If you are experiencing technical issues during class time please try logging out of zoom and back in. Teachers like to be fully present for other learners during class time so may not be able to answer messages sent. If the problem persists please contact Outschool Support.

Teacher Substitutions: We are an organisation with a group of teachers. In some instances another teacher may substitute for another (in the event of sickness/appointments/other engagments). This will be communicated as soon as possible to learners and parents.
