Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello and welcome! I'm Alexis, and I'm happy you're here.
The Basic Stuff:
At a glance, I teach ELA and composition, as well as marketing and communications courses for high schoolers. My classes range from topics such as A Beginners Guide to Storytelling for the lower grades to dive into their first composition course, to Social Media Super Star where we practice running a successful social media campaign for a fictional multi-million dollar business. I am always looking for feedback on what topics would be the most interesting and useful to students!
The Important Stuff:
I hold a BA in English and education from the Citadel Military College of South Carolina and an MA in communication and media relations from Johns Hopkins University. I believe the more experiences we have, the more educated we become. I've been called a chameleon in the workforce and I hold that title with honor. I have been an author, editor, copywriter, marketing manager, tutor, professor and an engineer. I've worked for numerous magazines and even served in the military once upon a time. I also hold my most coveted title of mother to two wonderful young boys that keep me on my toes.
The Fun Stuff:
Unsurprisingly, I love to read and write but what many people don't know if that I have a passion for antiques— and I even have a booth at an antique store near me where I sell cool old things I find while thrifting. I have 3 dogs and a cat who sometimes like to join me for classes, and a deep seeded love for Taylor Swift. You can find my family, pets and chickens residing just outside of Charleston, South Carolina.
I'm a new, fresh face and name here on Outschool but I am also eager and excited for this new endeavor. I look forward to getting to know my students and walking with them through the wonderful world of ELA, literature and more!
