What's included

1 live meeting
1 in-class hours per week
Homework
All homework is optional but reading is required. I provide fun projects and activities to go with all the readings.
Assessment
I offer weekly assessments most weeks in the folder for your student to take on the topics we covered. Students who want to test their knowledge of the content can take these and submit to be added into their grade. Most of the time, answer pages are also linked in there as well, but in the case there is none, submit for grading.
Grading
Grades will be provided via request but require students to submit weekly work to be graded and then averaged at the end for an overall grade. Please let me know the week you enter class if you wish to have a grade, and I will keep track of progress throughout the class.

Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
General Info:
This class is ongoing but set up as a semester long content class, meaning we will cover a full year of content topics in the given weeks listed. Continue reading for all the info you need.

There are 14 weeks of content. To know what week we are on or how many weeks are left, please check the scheduled meetings listed in the session. The closer you are to 14 meetings, the closer you are to the start. Hop in, join in any week, and jump into the topic. If you wish to catch earlier topics, the sessions always restart on new days at times at the beginning of a new semester, usually August and January.

About the Teacher:
I am a certified teacher in various topics, which I teach on Outschool, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree and two Master’s degrees. I strive to align my classes with state standards and GED topics. Each week, your student will see a topic they need to master.

About this Class:
This class is geared towards late Middle School to early High School. Each week we cover a new topic using a variety of learning tools and methods for all styles of learners.

Following class each week, I will put a message in the Outschool classroom with a link to a Google folder where I provide my notes from class, resources, and plenty of activities for you to use on the topic. I also link videos in the message for further coverage of topics. Click the “Show More” button on the message to access it. Class has a lecture base style with a mix of questions, discussion, videos, but a lot of content. Some weeks we practice the skills we learn, and others we cover more content.

Grading:
I do provide an overall grade for the class as a full semester/year class style, but I require at least 2 activities to be turned in weekly to me to grade. Some documents have answer pages, so you can go through the work before submitting, but if there is not an answer page provided, I will grade the work. Remember, work is not required, but if you desire a grade, I have to see your student’s work. I will also provide fill-in-the-blank notes for your student to have each week if they want to follow along and take notes during class.

Helpful Information

1. This class is structured for 6th-10th or higher. My goal is to have students enroll and stay in the class for the full listed count of weeks so they get all the topics they need.
2. Please let your student know I often have a lot to cover. I will ask questions and they are welcome to comment, but please keep questions and comments directed to the topic we are covering, and I require them to raise their hands to speak.
3. This class bills on Sundays. Please ensure your payment method is up to date. Every Sunday, the system will withdraw students due to processing errors. When this happens, I try to send a reminder, but often students lose spots and I cannot open more. Please ensure this does not happen if you want to keep your spot. :)

Refund and Pause Policy:

1. I offer up to 2 refunds per ongoing session. Reach out to me before PAUSING class because that does not guarantee you a spot if my class fills up, which they do often. Instead of taking the risk of losing a spot, reach out to me first.
2. If a makeup class is set by me due to a change on my end, you will not receive a refund. You can access recordings and all resources.
3. If you must miss class, you must ask for a refund 24 hours before the class meeting. If you ask on the day of class or after, no refund will be given.

Parental Guidance
The novels and works we will cover discuss topics that might be difficult. This is why I urge parents to check out the reads or the synopses of it before enrolling. Some of the books covered deal with topics including but not limited to: violence, rebellion, government, abuse, alcoholism, murder, crime, love, etc. During class, learners will be encouraged to share their thoughts and opinions on the themes and ideas presented in the books. Themes such as isolation, friendship, duty, identity, mortality, and more.

I have taught Literature and English for 8 years. I have a certification in English and have a Master's in teaching. I love sharing my love for literature with students and love challenging them to read things out of their comfort zone. I encourage solid discussion and like to push them and challenge them. I have taught all of these before in the classroom and in my charter school.
