Master of the art of writing for literature. Learning how to think about, speak about, and write about literature is a key aspect of developing as a student and learner. This class will cover the key elements of literary analysis. We will discuss how to analyze both poetry and short stories, explore key literary analysis terms, as well as develop literary analysis essays. We will read short pieces together while analyzing them. As a self-paced, flexible schedule version of my Literary Analysis course, this course will offer no live class meetings. Instead, your student will have access to a class recording weekly to watch, as well as additional written and visual documents to augment the recording. We will create a healthy discussion through messages to engage with the contents of the recordings. The student will also have various interactive assignments to check their understanding of the video content, creating a workshop feel during the 4 weeks. Also each week, students will have an opportunity to complete their own longer writing assignments related to the class content and to receive individualized teacher feedback. Students will practice their literary analysis skills through workshop style activities, as well as essay writing. I will provide individualized feedback for each learner with their literary analysis writing assignments. This class is advantageous for students who are taking or intend to take AP English Literature, as well as any student of literature. If you are preparing for an AP test: Prepare for your test with an AP authorized teacher and experienced grader for the College Board! I have been teaching with AP authorization and grading for the College Board for 17 years. I can help you understand what AP graders are looking for in your test answers, as well as all the details of how the test is constructed to help you reach your highest score! I encourage inexperienced essay writers to start with my essay writing course to learn the basics of writing a thesis, outlining, support, and introductions prior to this class. This class will apply those skills to analyzing and discussing literature in particular. What to expect from this course: -Solidify your knowledge of literary analysis terms and practice with short stories -develop essay writing strategy with poetry -discuss approaches to writing about longer pieces of fiction -grow through specific, individualized feedback
