Class Experience

I follow the typical 3rd-4th standards. By the end of this course, students will be able to:
1. Read with greater fluency
2. Use strategies more efficiently (rereading, questioning, and so on) when comprehension breaks down
3. Use word identification strategies with a greater facility to unlock unknown words
4. Identify an increasing number of words by sight
5. Write about a range of topics to suit different audiences
6. Use common letter patterns and critical features to spell words
7. Punctuate simple sentences correctly and proofread their own work
8. Recognize and discuss elements of different text structures
9. Make critical connections between texts
10. Write expressively in many different forms (stories, poems, reports)
11. Use a rich variety of vocabulary and sentences appropriate to text forms
Students should spend time reading texts, practicing vocab, and working on spelling. Additional optional homework is given each week.
A whiteboard, glue, scissors, writing utensils, coloring supplies, and a notebook is needed.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Spelling/vocab quizzes, formative assessments over books
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
