English-language learners will have a chance to practice their English in a relaxed environment playing games. The biggest challenge to learning English is overcoming nervousness about speaking it and this class gives a great opportunity for students to do practice without pressure Week 1 - 4/3/23 - Two Truths and a Lie and Hangman (1) Each student write two things that are true about them and one thing that's a lie. Students have to ask questions to guess which one is a lie. (2) Students will practice their letters and reading skills by guessing a word in a limited amount of turns. Week 2 - 4/10/23 -Boggle/Grammar Grid (1) Students will look at letters on a grid and try to create words in a limited amount of time. (2) Students will look at words on a grid and create as man words as they can in a limited amount of time. Week 3 - 4/17/23 - Desert Island (1) Students will be shown pictures of objects and they have to decide which five they'd want on a desert island and what they'd do with them. Week 4 - 4/24/23 - Conversation Cards and Word Ladder Students answer questions on cards and other students try to guess who wrote it and then students will build a word ladder. A list of words with only one letter different. Then make their own word ladder Week 5 -5/1/23 - Categories Game and Homophone Match Students have to come up with an item in a category such as fruit. The person who names the most fruit wins. The second game is Homophone match where students need to find the matching pair of words. Teacher expertise and credentials
Massachusetts Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi, my name is Debbie (short for Deborah)! I'm offering both academic and creative writing classes. I have a Bachelor's in Writing from Eastern Oregon University, a Master's degree in Elementary Education from Lesley University and certification as a teacher in Massachusetts for both Elementary Grades and English as a Second Language (6-12).
Writing has been a long-time passion of mine. I've been writing stories and poems since I could pick up a pen. I'd love to pass my love of writing on to your kids.
I've also taught writing from ages as young as PreK (4-5 year olds) to college. I'm currently Adjunct faculty at a local college, for English Language Learners. I love developing young writers, helping students organize their writing, teaching English language learners and preparing students for college.
Writing is so important, as it's a way to communicate our thoughts, ideas and our inner worlds.
I also do writing myself. I am an active children's book writer. I'm part of an international organization for children's authors and am actively working towards having a debut children's book in the near future.
