Skills and Content that I could assist with for each topic include: Reading Comprehension: activating prior knowledge, vocabulary, making inferences, making connections, asking questions, annotation/note taking Literary Analysis: plot, character analysis, point of view, figurative language/literary devices, style, tone Writing: parts of an essay, writing a thesis statement, providing textual evidence (quotations), proper citation, sentence structure, paragraph structure, figurative language/literary devices, tone, style, word choice, grammar The structure of the class would be as follows: Check-in/Icebreaker: 5 mins Review instructions for the assignment and/or rubric to ensure learner understands expectations: 5-10 minutes Support learner in completing the assignment: 30-40 minutes Check-out/Review: Support learner in synthesizing what they learned and how they can apply it to future assignments: 5-10 minutes I have a very structured, but student-centered teaching style. I ask learners lots of questions to help them figure out what they already know and invite them to ask me lots of questions as well. If direct instruction is required, I try to limit that portion of the class to 10-15 minutes. I give learners many opportunities to practice, and I try to incorporate games such as Kahoot when appropriate. I also like to use video clips when appropriate. I strive to make my classes interactive to keep students engaged.
