¡Listos! Kindergarten Readiness for Pre-K in English and Spanish
Class experience
Overview: This on-going kindergarten readiness class meets twice weekly and presents 4-5 year olds with basic pre-K material completely bilingually using songs, visuals, and activities. Math concepts are taught one day of the week and literacy concepts the another. Please note that this is not a traditional "Spanish" class and Spanish vocabulary is taught in the context of math and literacy. Not as the focus of the class, but rather as a means by which we learn pre-K material. Class...
The content of this class is the result of 5 years of working with young children through the context of an in-home preschool. I have always taught Spanish, but maintained an awareness that when teaching 4 and 5 year olds, preparing them for a main-stream Kindergarten experience is the goal of most parents. This class is designed to serve both purposes (Kindergarten prep and Spanish language learning). I hope to continue working with students who complete this class and begin attending Kindergarten. Whether they end up in monolingual or bilingual classrooms, I want to help each student journey toward full Spanish language proficiency.
RaShae Smith is a Texas certified educator in Spanish, art, and EC-6 with a bachelor's degree from Lubbock Christian University. She taught Spanish to young children at her in home preschool Libelula Spanish School for 5 years before moving to the online platform of Outschool. As a non-native speaker, she demonstrates to all of her students that Spanish classes work and anyone can learn a second language! She is raising her own 3 children to be bilingual and hopes they love Spanish as much as she does.
Your learner needs a CLEAR space. Please limit the distractions during class time. After class time has ended, please supply your child with the color sheet handout provided for that day and some crayons or markers. Ideally, your child will be able to tell you the letter, number, etc. featured in the color sheet in English and in Spanish!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
